Discover our luxury holiday cottages, lovingly decorated throughout December

To make your stay extra festive, each cottage is lovingly decorated for Christmas from the beginning to the end of December. Twinkling fairy lights adorn the traditional oak beams, glittering centrepieces add a special touch to your home cooked meal, the Christmas tree sparkles in the background and the wood burner lays ready to light for a cosy evening.

Each cottage is designed with adults in mind. Snuggle and The Coach House Loft both sleep two and are the perfect choice for a romantic break with your special someone. Galleri and Ponycob both sleep four guests with ensuite bedrooms, providing a luxury getaway for mature families or friendship groups.

In Galleri and Ponycob, the spacious oak tables are ideal for dinners and easily seat four guests. If you’re hosting family or friends from our neighbouring cottages, the table can be extended to comfortably fit up to eight, allowing everyone to enjoy a meal together during an adults-only Christmas break.

Here at Dolgoy, the festivities continue right through to the new year, and where better place to see in the new year than surrounded by your loved ones in a luxury cottage in the heart of the Welsh countryside? 

Feel worlds away from reality as you indulge in luxury on your winter retreat. Enjoy slow days strolling through the tranquil countryside in the crisp winter frost, savouring hot drinks in front of the fire, and eating delicious home-cooked meals with loved ones. 

As evening falls, step outside to see the skies light up with thousands of twinkling stars in our spectacular dark skies location, and enjoy a glass of Champagne in your private jacuzzi hot tub surrounded by the warmth of the swirling bubbles as the clock strikes midnight.

If you’re wondering where is nice for a winter country break this year, look no further. Nestled in the peaceful Welsh countryside, Dolgoy Cottages is a haven all year round but becomes a true Winter wonderland during the colder months.

A quiet morning at our luxurious cottages feels timeless. Step outside and listen to the crisp breeze ripple through trees. The fields and hills stretch out around us, dusted with frost underneath a pearly sky, giving way to the bright Winter sunshine. Relax in your private hot tub as the countryside awakes around you. Or, make a hot cup of coffee using the Tassimo, walk your dog over to our communal exercise paddock, and gaze down the valley as they run and play.

Step out of Dolgoy Cottages onto the quiet country lanes and take a fabulous Winter walk to one of the nearby beaches. Now that Summer is over, our sandy shores are wonderfully peaceful. Listen to waves lapping against the rocks and breathe in the fresh, salty air.

Dolgoy’s magical atmosphere continues into the evening. As night falls, the sky turns inky black and the moon shines bright above, amongst a canvas of stars. Immerse yourself in the peace and tranquillity of our secluded location from the comfort of your private hot tub or simply enjoy the open spaces beneath the stars. Feel the cool air against your skin, listen to the faint sounds of nature and lose yourself in the dark skies, undisturbed by light and noise.

Bringing your furry friend? Not a problem! All of our cottages are pet-friendly so your favourite pet can come along to enjoy dog friendly christmas breaks too. Ceredigion is a dog-friendly destination with plenty to see and do.

Enjoy nature along the winding countryside trails, stretch your legs on the quiet dog-friendly beaches, or even take a pit stop at one of the many coastal pubs to refuel. There are lots of hidden gems offering a warm welcome for you and your four-legged friend. When you return to your cottage, they can relax in front of the toasty wood burner – just like you. We also have a communal exercise paddock where your dog can run and play.

Each of our cottages has a private Jacuzzi hot tub that is available for use all year round. Escape the cooler temperatures and let the soothing warmth of the water cocoon you. Enjoy some peaceful alone time or share the experience with friends or family during a festive break in the UK. This pastime is the epitome of relaxation, making it a great place to bond, welcome the New Year or simply unwind.

Where is the best place to go in winter in the UK?

Ceredigion is a wonderful place in winter and makes for a magical Christmas break in the UK. Enjoy a variety of festive events and activities around the local area, from Christmas Fairs to street parades.

The quaint seaside towns come alive with sparkling decorations and lots of celebration. Find handcrafted trinkets for your special someone at the Christmas markets and enjoy delicious seasonal produce at our atmospheric pubs and restaurants.

Wander the Ceredigion Coastal Path

Coastal walks offer some of the best views in Wales. You can expect to see sandy shores, hidden coves, colourful clifftop flowers, and an abundance of wildlife and local history.

The Ceredigion Coast Path is no different. This 60-mile stretch is just part of the much larger Wales Coast Path but is home to some of the most beautiful scenery and nature found along the route, including grey seals and bottlenose dolphins. It is one of the many reasons people choose to visit this special corner of the world.

We recommend walking the stretch between Llangrannog and New Quay. This segment of the route is said to be the most spectacular part of the Ceredigion Coast Path. Covering around 9 miles of scenic landscape, including the legendary Carreg Bica, Ynys Lochtyn, and panoramic views of Cardigan Bay.

From our cottages, you are only a short distance from the Ceredigion Coastal Path – we’re just a mile away as the crow flies. Amble through the quaint country lanes until you reach one of the many start points. There are also circular walks that include stretches of the coastal path and a chance to see other towns and beaches including, Penbryn, Tresaith, Aberporth, Aberaeron, Mwnt, Cwm Soden and more. Explore our beautiful beaches and hidden coves

Our coastal holiday cottages are located near some of the finest beaches in West Wales, and many are dog-friendly too!

Cardigan Bay is renowned for its long, sandy beaches and clear blue waters. Feel the sand between your toes and take a refreshing dip in the sea. You can also explore the many hidden coves along the Bay for some peace and quiet, or take in the wonders of the local waterfalls.

Our coastline is also the perfect location to simply sit back, relax and watch the world go by. Find a comfortable spot on the beach to read your favourite book or listen to a much-loved podcast – there’s no better place to experience the UK’s summer sunshine.

Many of our beaches also have nearby pubs and restaurants where you can enjoy the beautiful views with a delicious meal or a quiet drink. Here’s a few of our favourite things to do in the local area:

  • Visit Tresaith village – stroll down to the sandy beach with shallow rockpools and an impressive waterfall. The village has a shop, cafe and pub, with the latter having wonderful views of the beach.
  • Discover local history at Cwmtydu – this area has an industrial heritage, and you can visit the old lime kiln that has been restored in recent years. A freshwater stream provides a lovely spot for the dogs to paddle and splash. There are often grey seal pups residing here in Autumn, so be careful if you visit.
  • Spend the day at New Quay – a picturesque town with lots of places to grab a bite to eat. The beach here is dog-friendly and it’s also a great location to begin a boat trip along the coast – read more on this below!

Llangrannog

Llangrannog is a sandy, Blue Flag beach that has something for everyone. Find a comfy spot along the golden shores to read a book, or watch the world go by from the local pubs and cafes that offer wonderful views of the beach.

For those who like adventure, it is a popular beach for surfing, and there is also a variety of walks to do nearby with stunning views of the coastline.

This beach is dog-friendly all year round but has restrictions in some areas between 1st May – 30th September.

Penbryn

Penbryn is an award-winning National Trust beach. From the car park at Llanborth Farm, you can meander through a shady, wooded valley, which is filled with beautiful flowers and wildlife. Follow the pathway which leads you straight onto the sandy beach. 

There is a cave on the right-hand side of the beach which you can see and explore during low tide – but there is no other way out, so check the tide tables before you begin your adventure. This beach is dog-friendly all year round but has restrictions in some areas between 1st May – 30th September.

Mwnt

Mwnt is a spectacular National Trust beach, and a haven for the local wildlife, including seals and dolphins. It is also a religious site and is home to the Church of the Holy Cross (Eglwys y Grog), which dates as far back as the 14th Century. There is also a small cafe and shop open between February and October. Please note, dogs are not allowed on this beach between May and September.

Poppit Sands

Poppit Sands sits at the mouth of Teifi Estuary and is surrounded by rolling dunes. It’s the perfect location for relaxing on the beach and spotting wildlife. Poppit is also a dark sky discovery site, so well worth a visit for stargazers. Dogs are not allowed on the Western end of the beach between May and September.

Take a boat trip to spot bottlenose dolphins

Our local boat trips offer an alternative way to explore the coastline. Experience panoramic views of Cardigan Bay and see what wildlife you can spot along the way. Did you know the Bay is home to the UK’s largest population of bottlenose dolphins?

You may also have the opportunity to see the charismatic Atlantic Grey Seals, the sometimes shy Habour Poporposes, and plenty of magnificent sea birds such as Razorbills and Guillemots.
