Spring has sprung at Dolgoy Cottages. The beautiful glow of daffodils and snowdrops fills the surrounding hedges, and the wonderful sounds of the emerging wildlife can be heard from your private adult-only cottage.

Join the Celebrations for Barely Saturday – April 26th

Held annually on the last Saturday of each month, Barley Saturday is a unique event in Cardigan, celebrating local farming heritage. Past events saw farmers from surrounding areas attend to view horses and hire workers. Today, this day-long event features parades of horses, vintage cars, motorbikes, tractors, carriages, milk floats, and gypsy wagons filling the streets before spectators.

Cardigan 

The beautiful town of Cardigan is situated not far from Dolgoy Cottages. The town is rich in history, with a wonderful castle overlooking the tidal reach of the River Teifi. Take a stroll through the vibrant streets and indulge in some fresh Welsh produce from the artisan bakeries, cafes and delis. 

New Quay 

New Quay is a charming seaside town just a short distance from our adult-only cottages. Known for its relaxing beach and marine life, it’s a great place to visit in Spring to explore boat trips and tours around the bay. There’s also an array of cafes and restaurants along the waterfront to have a morning coffee ahead of your day exploring, or enjoy some fresh seafood to round up your day. 

Llangrannog 

Just 2 miles from our tranquil hideaway, you’ll stumble across the coastal village of Llangrannog. With beautiful, dog-friendly beaches, it’s best known for the iconic Carreg Bica, a distinctive rock formation between Llangrannog and Cilborth Beaches. Enjoy a picnic on the clifftop, wander the beaches, and discover dog-friendly cafes and restaurants, including a wonderful, award-winning pizza restaurant. 

Aberaeron 

Another of our favourite nearby towns to visit during your stay at our luxury dog-friendly cottages in Wales is Aberaeron. A picturesque habour town, famous for Georgian buildings, with plenty of places to explore in Spring and Summer. The town is painted with vibrant buildings, boutique gift shops and a variety of cafes and delis. Enjoy a slower pace as you wander through the picturesque town, browsing the shops and enjoying delicious Welsh produce.

Top Events In and Around Cardigan Bay for Your West Wales Holidays in 2025

Barley Saturday – 26th April

This unique event held in Cardigan is a long-standing tradition dating back to the 19th century. Always held on the last Saturday in April, crowds flood the streets to enjoy horse parades, followed by parades of vintage cars, motorbikes, tractors, carriages, milk floats, and gypsy wagons. 

New Quay Music Festival – 1st – 3rd August 

Since its debut in 1998, the event has continued to grow and bring people together to celebrate arts and music. This unmissable event gathers acts of all genres over three days in the picturesque setting of New Quay with the stunning views of the bay as its backdrop. 

Aberaeron Beer and Cider Festival – 9th August 

Held in the Aberaeron Yacht and Watersports Club you will be invited to enjoy a variety of real ales, ciders, and perries and tuck into some delicious locally sourced food while listening to live music. Stay until late and dance the night away to a range of classics played by a DJ. 

Cardigan River and Food Festival – 16th August

The annual river and food festival celebrates the River Teifi and the diversity of food grown or prepared in the area and this year will be celebrating its 25th year. You are welcome to enjoy some of the best Welsh food and drink, plus a variety of entertainment suited to appeal to a range of ages. 

Aberaeron Carnival – 25th August

Taking place each year on August bank holiday Monday, this is an event to be enjoyed by all. Visit the stunning harbour town to enjoy Welsh food and drink and follow the carnival parade through the streets starting at Cadwgan Place, led by the Adamant Jazz Band.
