Discover the Best of Cardigan Bay with The Ultimate Summer Itinerary

Summer has well and truly arrived in Cardigan Bay, with bright blue skies, uninterrupted sunshine and a gentle sea breeze to keep you cool if you’re near the coast.

We’ve put together a list of our favourite warm-weather activities to enjoy during a stay at our adult-only, dog-friendly cottages in the UK. Whether you’re looking for a romantic weekend break with a private hot tub or a seaside escape with plenty to explore, you will find all this and more at Dolgoy Cottages.

Exploring Cardigan Bay

The quaint seaside towns, coastline and countryside of Cardigan Bay offer the perfect balance of adventure and tranquility.

If you’re keen to explore the local area, here are some of the best things to do in Llangrannog and other nearby coastal towns. Many of these activities are pet-friendly too, so you can bring your furry friend to our luxury dog-friendly cottages in Wales.

Dolphin Watching in New Quay

New Quay is renowned for dolphin spotting, with several local companies offering wildlife boat trips. During your excursion, you will have the chance to see dolphins, porpoises, and plenty of seabirds! As dolphins usually hunt for food in the mornings, we recommend booking an early trip for the best chance to spot them.

Walk the Coastal Path

Whether you’re after a challenging hike or a leisurely stroll, the Coastal Path has options for every type of walker – but all routes offer spectacular views of our sweeping coastline and idyllic countryside.

For those looking to enjoy the scenery at a slower pace, choose a short, circular walk. For a more strenuous route, a clifftop hike may be your best option.

Many walking routes start in Llangrannog, just a short distance from our dog-friendly cottages in Cardigan Bay. One of our personal favourites is the 3-mile Llangrannog to Ynys Lochtyn circular route, which starts from the Llangrannog beach car park. You will wind through peaceful inland paths to reach the clifftop, where you will enjoy panoramic views of the Ynys Lochtyn peninsula before heading back to the car park.

Heritage Sites and Gardens

West Wales has a rich history, and there are plenty of sites to visit to learn more about our heritage and culture.

We would highly recommend a trip to Cardigan Castle; there’s plenty to see and do, from exploring the grounds and relaxing in the gardens that look over the River Teifi to Escape Rooms and artistic performances.

After you visit the Castle, continue your afternoon in Cardigan Town, where you will find a wonderful selection of independent and boutique stores selling locally-made gifts, trinkets and Welsh produce.

Exhilarating Water Sports

New Quay is the go-to destination for water sports. Companies like Cardigan Bay Watersports offer a range of activities, with equipment to hire or to learn with an instructor. Activities include kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, powerboating and more.

Add a touch of romance to your stay

Treating your special someone to a romantic weekend break with a hot tub? Our luxury adult-only cottages are nestled in the tranquil Welsh countryside, but just a mile away from the coast as the crow flies.

Aside from relaxing at your cottage, there are also many romantic places to visit and reconnect with your loved one.

Slow mornings at Dolgoy

Enjoy slow mornings together from the comfort of your luxury adult-only cottage. Make coffee for two using the Tassimo Coffee Machine and indulge in handmade pastries from the local farmer’s market at St Dogmeal’s. Immerse yourselves in the peaceful surroundings of Dolgoy, offering a quiet moment to enjoy each other’s company, with nature and birdsong as your soundtrack; there’s no better way to start your day.

Scenic Drives and Picnics on the beach

Swap traffic jams and commutes for long scenic drives along the Welsh coast. Meander through picturesque villages like Aberporth, Cwmtydu and Llangrannog and experience spectacular views of the coastline. You will find viewpoints along the way for great photo opportunities.

Hot weather calls for days spent on sandy beaches, and we’re not short of these in Cardigan Bay. Pack a picnic, feel the sand beneath your feet and even take a dip (the sea will be warm enough!)

We recommend:

  • Mwnt
  • Penbryn
  • Tresaith
  • Llangrannog

Enjoy beautiful sunsets from Dolgoy or at the local beaches

The summer days give way to amazing sunsets, with the cloudless blue skies turning vibrant orange as the sun goes down. There are plenty of places to wind down after a day of exploring and watch the sun go down, whether that’s from the grounds of Dolgoy Cottages or at the peaceful nearby beaches. There’s simply nothing more romantic than spending time with your loved one watching a breathtaking sunset over Cardigan Bay.

Stargaze from your private hot tub

Each of our cottages has a private Jacuzzi hot tub, so you can fire up the bubbles, open a bottle of fizz, and while away the evening as the night sky lights up with thousands of twinkling stars.
